Today I want to talk about the most effective natural remedies for the treatment of prostatitis, an inflammation affecting the prostate that can cause pain, difficulty urinating, impotence and other unpleasant symptoms.
What is the prostate?
The prostate is a gland of the male reproductive and urinary system, located below the bladder. Its main function is to produce semen, one of the constituents of the sperm.
Prostate diseases
- BPH
The prostate is about the size of a walnut, but as we age, its size can vary, far exceeding the normal measurements. When this happens, the urethra – the channel that connects the bladder to the outside, allowing the urine to flow out – is squeezed and starts to have trouble urinating. It is the classic symptom of benign prostatic hypertrophy (or prostatic adenoma), more commonly known as the enlarged prostate. The causes of this problem are not yet clear, there are those who hypothesize that this is a hormonal imbalance, due to the decrease of testosterone with age, which would lead to the abnormal growth of some prostate cells. Others instead, like the dott. Piero Mozzi, believe that an incorrect diet is among the main causes behind this disorder. - Prostatitis
Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate and, in some cases, of the surrounding areas. It can be bacterial, but in many cases the causes are completely unknown. Also in this case there are those who, among the causes, put in first place a lifestyle and an unbalanced diet. - Prostate cancer
The statistics of the AIRC show that prostate cancer is the most widely diagnosed cancer for men (about 19% of the total). Fortunately, it is also one of those tumors where survival is greater (91% after 5 years from diagnosis). Prostate cancer in the phase begins is almost always asymptomatic, so much so that many men live with it without even being aware of it. But if the tumor mass grows abnormally, it can give rise to symptoms such as: difficulty urinating, need to urinate often, pain, blood in urine or semen, etc. Often these symptoms may be related to other prostatic problems, such as benign prostatic hypertrophy, or prostatitis, in any case it will be necessary to contact your doctor or the urologist specialist to ascertain the situation.
The natural remedies that you will discover by reading this article can help you in all three cases just mentioned.
Symptoms of prostatitis
As mentioned, prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate, which in some cases may also affect the surrounding areas, such as the bladder (in this case it is also called cystitis).
Types of prostatitis
There is talk of acute and chronic prostatitis in relation to duration.
In the first case we will be dealing with a sporadic case lasting only a few weeks. In the second case, it is instead a full-blown illness lasting months / years.
Causes of prostatitis
- Bacterial prostatitis : disease caused by a bacterial prostate infection;
- Non-bacterial prostatitis : in this case the causes are unknown and a more in-depth analysis is required.
Symptoms
The most common symptoms of prostatitis are:
- Pain and discomfort between the scrotum and anus, penis and in the lumbar-sacral area of the back;
- Frequent urination;
- Pain in the penis during and after urination;
- Incontinence;
- A weak and interrupted urinary stream;
- Inability to empty the bladder well;
- Repeated need to urinate often during nighttime sleep;
- Painful ejaculation;
- Erectile dysfunction.
Natural remedies for prostatitis
Let’s now look specifically at the most effective natural treatments for treating prostatitis and for prostate health in general.
These are five natural remedies, easy to find and use, effective not only because they reduce inflammation , but also because they are able to ” deflate the prostate “, counteracting the problem of benign prostatic hypertrophy, significantly improving the urinary flow and thus facilitating urination.
Some of these remedies, then, are also useful for the strong antibacterial and immunostimulant properties , very useful in case you have to do with a prostatitis of bacterial origin.
These remedies can be taken on their own, or all together.
In case you already take drugs for prostatitis (or other diseases), before taking any of these herbs, or supplements, I strongly advise you to consult your doctor.
1 – Aloe juice
Aloe , from the phytotherapeutic point of view, is undoubtedly one of the most complete and effective natural remedies, so much so that it can be used to treat and prevent an infinite number of diseases. Prostatitis is no exception .
Due to its rich active ingredients (vitamins, mineral salts, flavonoids, amino acids, anthraquinones, polysaccharides, etc.) Aloe can boast antitumor, immunostimulant, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and antiviral properties .
Oral consumption of Aloe juice helps to reduce the inflammation of the prostate and bladder, is able to reduce the size of the prostate and effectively counteracts bacterial infections .
There are several varieties of Aloe, the one with the highest content of active ingredients is undoubtedly Aloe Arborescens (not Aloe Vera!).
This plant uses the leaves that, after removing the thorns, should be blended together with honey and a little ‘grappa (or other distillate). The result is a greenish and frothy juice, slightly bitter and rich in healthy properties.
It is an ancient recipe from Brazil, handed down in some extremely poor villages where the inhabitants can not afford medical treatment traditional drugs. So they make use of what nature offers them. Aloe, which in Brazil assumes almost the characteristics of an infesting plant, represents one of these gifts of nature. Later this recipe was discovered and disseminated by a Brazilian friar of Italian origin, whose name is Father Romano Zago .
In this article you can find more information on the friar and on the Aloe recipe.
Father Romano Zago wrote a book, entitled ” Di Cancro can be cured ” and dedicated to this recipe. In this book he tells about his discovery, of how he became aware of it, of the first time he used it and the subsequent times.
In the case of prostatitis and in general for all prostate disorders , Father Zago states that Aloe juice is extremely effective .
Here is what is reported in the book:
If we had statistics about prostate problems, treated with the use of Aloe, honey and distillate, they would be among the most favorable results. It really works!
Father Zago strongly recommends the constant consumption of Aloe juice also for people suffering from prostate cancer .
In order for the product to be effective it is necessary to carefully follow the instructions for the preparation of the recipe, reported in the book by Father Zago “Di Cancro can be cured”. It is also important to carefully choose raw materials, using only organic and natural products. Finally it is necessary to be constant in the intake of the juice: 3 tablespoons a day, every day consumed half an hour before breakfast, lunch and dinner.

2 – Epilobium

The epilobium is the herb of the prostate par excellence, since for more than a century it has been used in folk medicine to treat specifically all the diseases affecting this gland, such as prostatitis and prostatic hyperplasia.
In the years at the turn of the 20th century, Maria Treben , a famous Austrian healer, was one of the first to discover the important medicinal properties of this plant. In fact, Marian Treben has practiced phytotherapy for a long time, studying its various applications. It has been practiced in Austria and Germany and has gained worldwide popularity as an authority in the field of herbal care.
He later wrote a book where he decided to divulge much of his knowledge. The work in question is titled ” The health from the pharmacy of the Lord “, a book that has been published in more than 20 languages and has sold over 3 million copies worldwide.
In this large space book was dedicated to the epiloby, which Mrs. Treben considers extremely effective for the treatment of all prostate and bladder disorders , including cancer.
This is because, after a short time after its intake, the effects are already beginning to be felt, with greater ease in urinating and completely emptying the bladder. This is because the epilobium has a rapid and effective anti-inflammatory action against the bladder and prostate, while reducing the size of the prostate gland.
Properties that subsequently were also confirmed by various scientific research (see Pubmed [ 1 ], [ 2 ], [ 3 ]).
Within her work, Maria Treben also wanted to share several testimonies of healing , in some cases of desperate patients who could not even urinate, or who were suffering from prostate cancer.
Where to find the epilobium
The epilobium is a plant that grows and grows luxuriant along the beds of the streams and in the mountainous areas, in areas with cold and temperate climate.
If you are willing to collect (or buy) the epiliby, pay attention to the type of plant, because there are different varieties.
Maria Treben recommends only the small-flowered varieties , such as epilobium parviflorum, epilobium roseum, epilobium montanum, epilobium lanceolatum and epilobium collinum.
In herbal medicine in general they sell the mother tinctures and extracts of l ‘ epilobium angustifolium, a variety advised against by Maria Treben, since according to her opinion it would have an even harmful effect on the prostate.
How to use?
Epilobium is used throughout the plant (except the roots), then stem, leaves and flowers. The fresh plant is used, or dried to prepare herbal teas. The dosage is about a teaspoon of dried epilobium for a cup of boiling water. It is left to infuse for 10 minutes and then filtered and drunk.
This herbal tea should be drunk 2 times a day, always on an empty stomach. In the morning before breakfast, and in the evening before dinner.

3 – Pollen of Bees
Bee pollen is a treasure chest of nourishing and healthy substances.
In fact, it contains 35% of proteins, 21 aminoaicides of 23 in nature, 35% of carbohydrates, 5% fat substances (mostly unsaturated aids), all vitamins (except vitamin B4 and F), mineral salts and flavonoids.
For its tonic and energizing properties , it is generally used as a real natural supplement, very useful especially for athletes and students under examination.
However, pollen also has other “hidden properties”.
In fact, there are several studies that confirm that the consumption of bee pollen is effective in combating prostatitis and prostatic hypertrophy, as it reduces pain and inflammation, inhibiting the proliferation of prostate tissue.

4 – Nettle root and leaves
Another natural remedy commonly used for prostatitis is nettle (Urtica dioica).
A study was recently published in 100 patients with benign prostatic hypertrophy, where the effects of the nettle in the reduction of prostate size are confirmed .
Furthermore, this study also demonstrates the reduction of symptoms associated with prostate enlargement.
You are not completely sure why this plant is effective in treating this disorder. Some clinical studies report that the nettle would contain chemicals capable of affecting the hormones that cause prostatic hyperplasia, as well as directly prostate cells.
How do we assume?
Root and nettle leaves are used to treat prostate problems. With the leaves you prepare an herbal tea (just leave the leaves to infuse 10 minutes in hot water and then filter). The root instead is used as a decoction.
5 – Pumpkin seeds
Pumpkin seeds have a long and established tradition in folk medicine, in the treatment of intestinal worms, as well as in the treatment of prostate disorders.
This thanks to the very high zinc content.
In fact, zinc affects the metabolism of androgens , inhibiting the activity of the enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT , 5alpha-reductase. This is a fundamental androgen hormone for the development and normal growth of the prostate. Nevertheless, it is also recognized to be the cause of hyperplastic nodules in the gland, which eventually lead to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
In addition, zinc reduces the secretion of prolactin , a hormone that implements testosterone booster in the prostate. The more testosterone, the higher DHT production is. By reducing the synthesis of prolactin, zinc also ensures lower DHT.
Finally it contrasts and inhibits the binding of DHT to receptors.
In addition, pumpkin seeds also contain betasteroli . These substances, besides being proved useful for reducing bad cholesterol, are also very useful to relieve symptoms of prostatic hypertrophy, an effect that seems partly linked to the ability to inhibit the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone, and partly to the obstacle offered towards the link between androgen and dihydrotestorone receptors.
Other natural remedies for the prostate
Other cures and natural remedies to combat prostatitis:
- Colloidal Silver
These are tiny particles of silver (nanoparticles) suspended in a solution of distilled water. Silver taken in the form of colloids is non-toxic and has antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. In essence it acts as a natural antibiotic and can be taken alone, or in combination with normal antibiotics. It is very effective especially for the treatment of bacterial prostatitis. You buy it in herbal medicine, pharmacy or on the internet. - Serenoa repens (dwarf palm)
It is one of the best known natural remedies. The fruits of this plant have a balancing action on the male hormone system, and are used in the treatment of prostate and alopecia problems. - Lycopene
Lycopene is a substance with antioxidant properties contained mainly in tomato, but also in other red or pink fruits, such as watermelon and grapefruit. According to some research, this substance would be able to prevent the occurrence of prostate cancer. - Prostatic massage
Prostate massage is an ancient practice used for preventive and curative purposes. Although in the West it is known to be a massage to provoke sexual pleasure, it can actually be extremely helpful in alleviating the symptoms of prostatic hypertrophy or prostatitis.
Diet and foods to avoid
Good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle are fundamental both in prevention and in the treatment of prostate diseases.
The ” basic recommendations “, which all doctors give roughly are these:
- avoids smoking and alcohol;
- try to reduce stress levels (perhaps through sports and meditation);
- reduce the consumption of refined industrial foods, rich in dyes, preservatives and sugars.
However there are those who do not stop at these recommendations and go far beyond, accurately indicating the foods to be avoided, as absolutely harmful to the health of the prostate.
Unfortunately, the more we learn and the more confusion seems to be on this issue, because theories are often very conflicting with each other. However there is a category of foods where I have found increasingly convergent opinions.
I’m talking about milk and dairy products .
There are more and more medical figures, who consider milk and all dairy products a threat, as they are rich in animal hormones and growth factors , which can lead to hormone imbalance and abnormal growth of prostate tissue.
Among the main exponents of this thesis we find:
- Dr. Piero Mozzi
The dott. Hubs considers milk as a food to be avoided, both for man and for women, above all because it would lead to the development of diseases and tumors of the prostate, ovary and breast. Watch the video - Dr. Franco Berrino
The professor. Berrino from a less negative judgment, but still considers it a food suitable only for growth. According to his experience, who drinks milk has higher concentrations of growth factors in the blood, in particular of Insulin-like growth factor type 1 (Igf-I), and those who have higher these factors get sick more than various types of tumors, especially breast, ovary and prostate tumors. He talks about it in this interview with la Stampa - Dr. T. Colin Campbell
The dott. Colin Cambpell conducted a study, which lasted almost 30 years, on the relationship between diet and tumors and found that casein, or the protein contained in milk and its derivatives, is one of the main causes of the proliferation of many tumors and in particular of those that affect the male and female sexual system. He talks about it in his book “The China Study”. On this site you will find a video clip in which he discusses this topic openly. - Dr. Maria Rosa Di Fazio
Dr. Di Fazio is an oncologist working at the SH Health Service International Medical Center in San Marino, where she practices a type of integrated oncology. She is very attentive to the nutrition of all her patients and one of the first foods that takes away from everyone is milk, as well as all its derivatives. It is an obligatory act in patients affected by a tumor (of any kind), but it should also be avoided in terms of prevention, because precisely, the milk contains growth factors and animal hormones that according to his opinion, are absolutely harmful for the our health and in particular for reproductive health. Dr. Di Fazio has also written a book dealing with nutrition entitled “Eating well to defeat Evil”. Find a review here.
