Today I would like to give you some useful advice for constipation one of the most widespread disorders in theWestern world .
I intentionally pointed out “Western World” to make you understand that this is a problem mainly related to our way of eating .
In fact, the daily consumption of certain foods, such as:
- milk and derivatives;
- refined flours;
- sweets and sugars;
- sodas;
- candy and chewing gum;
- packaged foods full of preservatives;
- salami and pork;
- etc…
The daily consumption of these foods, combined with the low consumption of plant fibers and foods rich in probiotics, such as crauts and fermented vegetables, are to be considered among the main causes of this disorder .
Of course, the causes are not just food.
Even a too sedentary lifestyle and stress have a lot to do and can cause or worsen constipation, but in 99% of cases a good diet, combined with natural remedies, can really make a difference.
But first let me tell you what you should never do …
… The use of laxative drugs
It is good to take drugs or herbal pills with a laxative effect, but this should always be done with criteria, without exceeding.
Why?
While it is true that in the early days they are very effective, on the other hand I must warn you that prolonged use of these substances may over time lead to a worsening of constipation and often also to the appearance of even more annoying symptoms, such as irritable colon and abdominal swelling.
It is a suggestion that I can give you, since we have already passed through the family and I also think that every good doctor and pharmacist should inform his patients about the dangers of the continued use of these “remedies”.
Without this small premise, we come to the real advice.
My remedies against constipation
Against constipation I have to recommend four natural remedies, all very effective and usable even in a prolonged way.
Let’s start immediately with the first one that I personally consider the most effective:
1. Aloe juice

Aloe is an extraordinary plant that acts on the body at 360 ° purifying it in depth:
- stimulates the immune defenses,
- neutralizes or reduces the activity of many viruses, fungi and pathogenic bacteria,
- reduces inflammation,
- slows cellular aging,
- and much more…
But the reason why it has always been used by the pharmaceutical industry is above all one!
As a raw material for the preparation of laxative and purgative tablets.
In fact, the skin and the outer part of the Aloe gel contain a considerable quantity of anthraquinone glycosides with a marked laxative action .
The action is much more powerful if you take pharmaceutical extracts, which isolate these molecules to produce real purgatives. The use of these products, if the principle can achieve a clear improvement of the disturbance, in the long run can lead to a deterioration (which we have already said before).
The action is instead more delicate , but at the same time even more effective, if the Aloe leaf is taken in its natural state , in its entirety and in the manner recommended by the Brazilian friar Father Romano Zago, a method that I have also reported in this article.
This is because Aloe, in addition to anthraquinone glycosides, contains an infinite variety of beneficial substances such as vitamins, mineral salts, mucilage, polysaccharides and enzymes, all working together synergistically acting on the cause of constipation and improving intestinal function in the short, but also and above all in the long term.
How to prepare Aloe juice
The juice should be prepared following the recipe of Father Romano Zago, or whisk together:
- 350 g of Aloe Arborescens leaves,
- 500g of excellent quality honey,
- 3-4 tablespoons distilled (grappa, gin, vodka, whiskey, etc.).
In choosing the plant, in the collection times and in the preparation phase, some precautions must be respected.For more details on how to prepare the recipe of Father Zago you can download our guide .
How to take Aloe juice
The juice of Aloe should be taken consistently every day, three times a day , half an hour before meals, in the amount of a spoon. In the early days it is easy to experience episodes of diarrhea.
It’s completely normal and you should not panic.
Continuing with the intake of juice within a week or less, normal bowel activity will be restored.
How long should it be taken?
In reality there is no real deadline. The juice can be taken in the amount of a single can a year, or cycles 2-3 times a year, but there are also many people who take it daily and are well.
The thing is always very subjective.
In any case, Aloe juice is a remedy that can not replace a good diet, which remains the best way to solve the problem by eradicating the root cause.
Are there any contraindications?
Yes . The juice of Aloe made following the recipe of Father Zago is not recommended for pregnant and lactating women and people suffering from serious inflammatory diseases to the colon, such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. In this case it is possible to take the pure concentrated juice of Aloe Vera, without aloin .

2. The decoction of Mallow

The mallow is a plant whose leaves and flowers are extremely rich in mucilage , the substances that in contact with water dilate forming viscous but not adhesive solutions.
Precisely because of this characteristic mucilages are extremely useful for those suffering from constipation, as they soften the feces and lubricate the intestinal walls , facilitating the transit of the fecal mass and therefore the evacuation.
The action of the mallow is very delicate, so it is a safe natural remedy, also suitable for children, pregnant and lactating women and all those people suffering from inflammatory diseases to the colon, such as colitis, ulcerative colitis, crohn and diverticulitis.
How is mauve used?
With the mallow it is necessary to prepare a decoction.
It is prepared like this:
A generous teaspoon of dried mallow leaves and flowers for a cup of water. Put everything in a saucepan and leave to heat on the hob until the water reaches the boiling point. Leave them to boil for at least 20-30 minutes , so as to obtain a flowing and viscous liquid, a sign that the extraction of the mucilage took place correctly.
Once this is done, you can filter and drink the still hot drink, or lukewarm if you prefer.
For a good laxative effect, drink 2 to 3 cups a day of this decoction.

3. Linseed and Chia seeds

Like the mallow, flaxseed and chia seeds also contain many mucilages , substances which, as I mentioned in the previous chapter, are extremely useful for the fight against constipation.
The use of these seeds as a natural laxative is an ancient and effective remedy, handed down to us by the wisdom of our ancestors.
Once in fact there were no drugs, but resorted to these simple remedies to defeat the small and big problems of every day.
How to use?
Flaxseeds, or chia seeds, should not be eaten but left to soak in natural water at room temperature overnight .
In general, a teaspoon of linseed or chia is used, half a glass of water. The next morning you will notice that the seeds have swollen, a sign that the mucilage absorbed a part of the water.
At this point, all you have to do is drink and swallow the water with the seeds in one breath. Warning! The seeds should not be chewed.
The remedy is more effective if done on an empty stomach, 15-20 minutes before breakfast.
This natural remedy can easily be repeated every day and is good for everyone, small, adult, elderly and lactating or pregnant women.
Moreover it can easily be combined with other remedies of which I have already spoken to you (aloe and mallow juice).
Our products:
4. Dried prunes

Prunes are famous for their laxative action .
This effect is linked to the presence of organic acids, sugars with an osmotic action (even non-digestible, such as sorbitol) and oxyphenol (used in the past as a laxative drug).
But not everyone knows that to increase the effect, even these should be soaked in water at room temperature for one night, just as I explained in the chapter on seeds.
The doses that I recommend are 2 prunes for half a glass of water.
Combined prunes + seeds effect
For an even more effective action I suggest you add the remedy of plums to that of seeds.
Then you will prepare a whole cup of water, where you will leave overnight a spoonful of flaxseed (or chia) and 2 prunes. The next day you drink water with seeds and eat prunes (these are unlike chewed cheeses).
Forward anything prevents you from combining these two remedies to herbal tea and aloe juice.
